Curiosities

Jacquard's loom - early programming using punch cards to weave cloth.

From Bryn Jones.  http://www.flickr.com/photos/freoman/sets/72157600379333317/

When I last visited Matlock in Derbyshire (which is very near to where I was born), I came across a set of fully restored looms working in Arkwright's original cotton mill and took the photos. The photos show the looms working, the programme designs prior to being put on the card rolls, the punched card rolls and some samples of finished material.

ENIAC simulation - from Vic Gecas

"This page is the home of the ENIAC simulation. The ENIAC was the first electronic digital universal computer built at Pennsylvania University in 1944-1946. " - http://page.mi.fu-berlin.de/zoppke/D/
